मराठी विभागाविषयी

१९३२ साली स्थापन झालेल्या मॉडर्न एज्युकेशन सोसायटी,पुणे अंतर्गत मुंबई,पुणे विभागातील कला,विज्ञान,वाणिज्य,अभियांत्रिकी,विधी आणि व्यवस्थापनाची अनेक महाविद्यालये आहेत जसे की नवरोसजी वाडिया महाविद्यालय (पुणे), न्यू लॉ कॉलेज (मुंबई), नेस वाडिया कॉलेज (पुणे) इ. या संस्थे अंतर्गत असणारे आणि मुंबई विद्यापीठाशी संलग्न असणारे मुंबई माटुंगा विभागातील एक प्रतिष्ठित महाविद्यालय म्हणजे डी.जी.रुपारेल कला, विज्ञान आणि वाणिज्य महाविद्यालय होय. या महाविद्यालयाची स्थापना १९५२ मध्ये झाली.
१९५२ साली रुपारेल मध्ये मराठी विभाग सुरू झाला आणि मराठी विभागाचे पहिले विभागप्रमुख कृ. पां. कुलकर्णी ह्यांनी मराठी वाङ्मय मंडळाची स्थापना केली.
विविध क्षेत्रांत उल्लेखनीय कामगिरी करणाऱ्या काही विद्यार्थ्यांची नावे :

अशा प्रकारे रुपारेल महाविद्यालयाच्या मराठी विभागाचे कलावंत, लेखक, प्राध्यापक, अभिनेते, समीक्षक घडविण्यामध्ये मोलाचे योगदान दिसते. अभ्यासक, कलावंत यांच्या अनेक पिढ्या मराठी विभागाने घडविल्या.
विद्यार्थी घडविण्यासाठी मराठी विभागाने मराठी वाङ्मय मंडळाची स्थापना केली आणि वाङ्मय मंडळातर्फे अनेक कार्यक्रम,उपक्रम आयोजित केले.
मराठी वाङ्मय मंडळ (स्थापना १९५२)
प्राचार्य एस. बी. जोशी आणि मराठी पहिले विभागप्रमुख कृ. पां. कुलकर्णी यांनी १९५२ साली मराठी वाङ्मय मंडळाची स्थापना केली. त्याच्या उद्घाटनासाठी मुंबई मराठी ग्रंथसंग्रहालयाचे संचालक श्री. अ. का. प्रियोळकर ह्यांना बोलावण्यात आले होते. ह्या वाङ्मय मंडळाच्या निमित्ताने अनेक दिग्गज व्यक्ती रुपारेलमध्ये आल्या, अनेक कार्यक्रमांची पायाभरणी झाली आणि त्यातून विद्यार्थ्यांच्या अनेक पिढ्या घडल्या.

The Department of Marathi was established in the year 1952. Prof. K. P. Kulkarni was the first Head of the Marathi Department. He was a well known Marathi Grammarian. The department has been blessed with a legacy of brilliant and experienced Heads and faculty members including Professor Nerlekar, Prof. L. G. Jog (a renowned critic), Prof. Ram Kapse (Former Lok sabha Member and former Governor of Andaman and Nicobar), Dr. Madhuri Panshikar (Expert scholar in Saint literature), Dr. Pushpalata Rajapure-Tapas (Former Head of Marathi Department, University of Mumbai and a renowned critic).
Faculty in the department have been using various interactive and creative student-centric teaching-learning methods to develope academic, critical, creative and professional skills among students. As a result of this, the department has an equally glorious tradition of alumni working successfully in a great range of fields. Some of Our successful alumni:

  • Successfully submitted PhD thesis on ‘नव्वदनंतरची मराठी कविता’(An analytical study of Marathi Poetry in post-1990 era) under the guidance of Dr. Pushpalata Rajapure-Tapas at the Department of Marathi, Mumbai University.
  • Successfully submitted MPhil thesis under the guidance of Dr. Vasant Patankar at the Department of Marathi, Mumbai University.
  • Completed a UGC-sponsored minor research project titled 'Review of syllabus and its effectiveness in terms of job opportunity'.(Sanctioned amount-Rs. 50000; submitted in 2012-2013).
  • Presented a paper on 'Impact of Modernization on Marathi Literature in the context of class, caste and gender' in a conference organized by LJNJ College, Parle.(1st April, 2015).

  • Currently contributing as a member in the committee appointed by Govt. of Maharashtra for revision of Government Resolution, 2009 about norms of standard Marathi writing. (Since October, 2021.)
  • Has been guiding students in their preparation for Avishkar Research Convention and other research competitions, 2015 onwards. Few significant projects may be mentioned as follows:
  1. Worked as a guide for a students’ research-project ‘मराठी ‘मोबाईल’ होण्यासाठी !’ (A survey about use of Marathi Devanagari Script in mobile phones by youth; Students: Ms. Jyotsna Bhatwadekar, Ms. Radhika Surpur and Ms. Sanika Athavale, SYBA) for Aavishkar Research Convention; which was awarded First prize at Zone-1 Round. (December 2016.) Guided those students to write and publish an e-booklet ‘मराठी ‘मोबाईल’ होण्यासाठी !’ to make people aware about the availability of different Apps for Devanagari typing in mobile phones. (Published by D. G. Ruparel College as a free and open source e-book in 2017.)
  2. Worked as a guide for a student’s research-project ‘शौचालय : एक शोधकथा’ (How to develop solutions to improve conditions of public toilets in Mumbai region?; Student’s name: Mr. Mohammed Akbar Maula Shikalgar, SYBA) for Aavishkar Research Convention; which was awarded First prize at University level in C-1 category and represented Mumbai University at state-level round organized at Krushee Vidyaapeeth, Rahuri. (January 2018.)
  3. Worked as a guide for a students’ Research-paper on ‘तो / ती / ते ? : मराठी व्याकरणातील यक्षप्रश्न’ (A project about challenging phenomenon of gender in Marathi grammar especially for non-native speakers and possible solutions for making it easier for them to practice; Students: Ms. Amruta Arabhavi, Ms. Manasi Muskawad, Ms. Mahima Gaikwad, SYBA); which won First prize in Arts Stream Category at Students’ Research Conference, organized by Satish Pradhan Dnyanasadhana College, Thane. (12.02.2019.)

Marathi Vangmay Mandal, the literary association of the Department of Marathi has been active since 1952. It has a grand tradition of organizing a variety of activities to develop lingual as well as literary skills and develope critical socio-cultural approach among students. All these activities aim at providing the students an opportunity of enjoyable and enriching experiential learning. Following activities are organized under the banner of Marathi Vangmay Mandal:

पूर्वी रुपारेल महाविद्यालयातील मराठी विभागाकडून ‘शकुन्त’ नावाचे एक भित्तिपत्रक चालवले जात असे. ‘अभिज्ञानशाकुन्तलम्’ ह्या कालिदासलिखित संस्कृत नाटकात ‘शकुन्त’ हा शब्द आला आहे. शकुन्त पक्ष्यांनी मेनकेच्या मुलीचे पालन / संगोपन केले, त्यामुळे त्या मुलीचे नाव ‘शकुन्तला’ असे रूढ झाले. शकुन्तलेचे पालन करणाऱ्या ह्या पक्ष्याच्या पौराणिक संदर्भावरूनच ह्या भित्तीपत्रकाचे ‘शकुन्त’ हे नाव ठेवले गेले. काही वर्षांपूर्वीपर्यंत हे भित्तिपत्रक नियमितपणे सुरू होते, परंतु नंतर ते थबकले. ‘शकुन्त’नंतर मधे थोडा खंड पडून नव्या युगाचे नवे नाव घेऊन ‘संवाद’ हे भित्तिपत्रक पुढे काही काळ प्रकाशित झाले. दुर्दैवाने काही कारणांनी ह्या भित्तिपत्रकाच्या प्रकाशनातही खंड पडत गेला. ह्यानंतर मराठी विभागाचे, मराठी भाषा, साहित्य, संस्कृती ह्या विषयांना आणि त्याचबरोबर विद्यार्थ्यांच्या लेखनाविष्काराला संधी देणारे असे काहीतरी माध्यम असावे, हे सतत वाटत राहिले.
ह्या जाणिवेतूनच पुन्हा एकदा भित्तिपत्रक सुरू करावे का, असा विचार २०१७-२०१८ ह्या शैक्षणिक वर्षात पुन्हा पुढे आला. आताच्या पिढीचा नवमाध्यमांकडे ओढा आहे; त्यामुळे साहजिकच ह्या पिढीच्या आविष्काराची माध्यमे बदलली आहेत. ह्या नवमाध्यमांमुळे अभिव्यक्त होण्यासाठी एक नवीन मार्ग आता सर्वांसाठी उपलब्ध झाला आहे. कदाचित ह्या नव्या मार्गाने नव्या पिढीला अभिव्यक्त व्हायला आवडेल आणि त्यामुळे हा उपक्रम सातत्याने चालू शकेल, ह्या विचाराने मराठी विभागाच्या नव्या नियतकालिकाची इ-आवृत्ती काढण्याचा निर्णय मराठी-वाङ्मयमंडळाच्या कार्यकर्त्यांनी एकमताने घेतला. ह्या निर्णयानंतर नियतकालिकाचे नाव काय असावे, ह्याबाबतच्या चर्चेला सुरुवात झाली. ‘नव-शकुन्त’ किंवा ‘नव-संवाद’ अशा एखाद्या नावाने पुन्हा एकदा हे नियतकालिक सुरू करावे का, असा विचार करण्यात आला. पण त्यासोबतच काही वेगळी नावेही सुचवली जाऊ लागली. खूप चर्चेनंतर ‘सहितौ’ हे नाव पुढे आले. ‘सहितौ’ ह्या शब्दाचा संदर्भ हा संस्कृत साहित्यशास्त्रात काव्याविषयी (साहित्याविषयी) भामहाने जी व्याख्या दिली आहे, तिच्याशी निगडित आहे. भामहाने ‘शब्दार्थौ सहितौ काव्यम् ।’ अशी साहित्याची व्याख्या केलेली दिसते. शब्द आणि आशय किंवा शब्द आणि अर्थ ह्यांचे सहितत्व म्हणजे साहित्य होय. ह्या नियतकालिकाच्या नावामागे फक्त शब्द आणि अर्थ ह्यांचे सहितत्व इतकाच संदर्भ नसून; त्यामागे अजून एक भूमिका आहे. आज जर मराठीच्या उज्ज्वल भवितव्यासाठी आणि मराठी भाषा, साहित्य, संस्कृती ह्यांच्या जतन-संवर्धनासाठी कार्य करायचे असेल; तर मराठीशी संबंधित असणाऱ्या वेगवेगळ्या घटकांनी – प्राध्यापक, विद्यार्थी, सामान्य मराठी माणसे, प्रसारमाध्यमे, साहित्यिक, कलाकार इत्यादींनी – सहित / एकत्र येणे ही गरजेची गोष्ट आहे. ह्याच भूमिकेतून नवीन नियतकालिकाचे नाव ‘सहितौ’ असे ठेवले गेले आहे.

मराठी मोबाईल होण्यासाठी - पुस्तक

A students’ research-project ‘मराठी ‘मोबाईल’ होण्यासाठी !’ (A survey about use of Marathi Devanagari Script in mobile phones by youth; Students: Ms. Jyotsna Bhatwadekar, Ms. Radhika Surpur and Ms. Sanika Athavale, SYBA) was awarded First prize at Zone-1 Round in Aavishkar Research Convention. (December 2016.) These students were motivated and guided to write and publish an e-booklet ‘मराठी ‘मोबाईल’ होण्यासाठी !’ to make people aware about the availability of different Apps for Devanagari typing in mobile phones. The e-booklet was published by D. G. Ruparel College as a free and open source e-book in 2017. It was prepared in January, 2017 and was formally published at the hands of Dr. Anand Katikar, Director of Raajya-Marathi-Vikaas-Sansthaa, Mumbai on 23rd September, 2017.
