About Us

Year Of Establishment : 1952
Physics department of D. G. Ruparel College is among the few departments which were established along with our college inception. At undergraduate our department has B.Sc. Physics and at post-graduation, we have M.Sc. Physics with specialization in Electronics. We also have doctoral research in Physics since 2017. Physics Department has well established PG Physics Theory teaching center since year 2012.

Vision of our department is to provide quality education to students of Physics and equip them with skills to make a change in the world of science. And to make this vision happen, our Mission is

  • Provide high quality Physics education
  • Sensitize students for the betterment of society
  • We want to ‘Reach to all Unreached'
Our department spreads over 8000 sq. feet with dedicated laboratories for F.Y.B.Sc. , S.Y.B.Sc. and T.Y.B.Sc. classes. All these laboratories can at a time accommodate 3 batches of 20 students each with adequate storage facility for equipment. We also have a M.Sc. laboratory and separate research facility laboratory.

Educational Visits

In the academic year 2018-19 two educational visits were arranged at following places :

E2P : Entrance Exam in Physics

E2P is a co-curricular activity in which we provide guidance to students of S. Y. B. Sc. and T. Y. B. Sc. classes for cracking competitive entrance examinations like

  • NGPE ( National Graduate Physics Examination)
  • IIT – JAM ( Joint Admission Test for M.Sc.)
  • TIFR – JEST ( Joint Entrance Screening Test)
  • IUCCA – INAT (IUCAA-NCRA Admission Test)
  • NET, SET ( National, State Eligibility Test)
There are problem solving sessions and group discussions conducted on weekly basis.
Mr. Ganeh Madkaikar, Mr. Sumedh Sawant, Mr. Giraj Sharma are coordinators of this activity.

Techno Series

To increase the awareness among the students for various areas of applications of Physics, current trends in Physics, career opportunities after the course completion and to develop the necessary skills, various guest lectures and interactive sessions are arranged by the the department under Techno Series Activity.

Short Term Courses

Physics department offers two short term certificate courses every year for all the students who are interested in the area of Astronomy and Robotics.

VIBGYOR - Physics Fest

  • Inception in February 2013
  • Coordinated by students and faculty
  • Open to All
  • Annually visited by nearby schools
  • Number of visitors per year : 1000+
  • Helps our students in Academic, Personality and Soft skills developments
